Keep Victoria Beautiful Receives Gold Star Status from Keep Texas Beautiful

VICTORIA
, TX ---Keep Victoria Beautiful, a committee of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to announce they have received Gold Star Status from Keep Texas Beautiful for 2006. The group, who also received the Gold Star status in 2005, will receive an award plaque at the KTB annual conference in Plano, TX. Accepting on the group’s behalf will be Emily Weatherly, Keep Victoria Beautiful Project Coordinator and Bennie Ortiz, City of Victoria Recycling Center.

Victoria is one of more than 330 towns, cities, and counties in KTB’s statewide network who take responsibility to care for their community environments.  Only 66 of these affiliates obtained the highest status for 2006.

“The Gold Star recognizes that Keep Victoria Beautiful’s efforts to prevent litter, beautify public areas, educate the community and minimize solid waste are being noticed at the state level,” said Emily Weatherly, KVB project coordinator.

“We are very proud of the progress of Keep Victoria since the group’s revitalization in 2004 and we still have much to do. We appreciate this recognition from Keep Texas Beautiful and hope it will encourage businesses and concerned individuals to get involved with our efforts to beautify Victoria,” said Dave Hill, president of Keep Victoria Beautiful.

Annually, to achieve a level of good standing, KTB Affiliates submit a report, pay a fee, attend at least one training session, and participate in at least one KTB endorsed activity.  In 2004, KTB introduced the opportunity for their affiliates to earn Gold Star recognition by meeting additional criteria including sharing information on affliates’ missions and goals, answering questions about their public education programs, partnerships and providing a letter of support from their community.

Keep Victoria Beautiful is a committee of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and meets the first Monday of each month at 700 Main Center. For more information on Keep Victoria Beautiful, visit www.keepvictoriabeautiful.com or call 361-573-5277.
